Organic cotton with the GOTS certificate

At Verhees Textiles, sustainability is of great importance and we believe that everyone can do their bit. That is why we have an ever-increasing range of GOTS certified cotton. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is an international standard that guarantees not only organic cotton but also an environmentally and socially responsible product. Our GOTS-certified articles have been produced organically and have passed a strict inspection. This means, among other things, that our Jerseys and Sweats are made of at least 95% organically grown cotton. Our Poplin and Double Gauze are made of 100% organic cotton!

GOTS does not only mean organic cotton, the entire production chain is considered. So you know for sure that the fabric has been produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. What does GOTS stand for?

  • Organically grown cotton without genetically modified seeds
  • No harmful pesticides, chlorine, toxic heavy metals and dyes used in production
  • Better conditions for workers including a minimum wage, no forced or child labour and safe and hygienic working conditions
  • Additional waste and production water is strictly managed in order to avoid harming nature

Fortunately, the demand for sustainable fabrics is increasing. Consumers are increasingly aware that we need to be more careful with our planet. It is estimated that the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all carbon emissions in the world, which is more than the emissions of international aviation and shipping combined. All steps in the right direction are therefore of great importance! You will help too, won't you?

Verhees Textiles believes in this positive and sustainable development towards a more sustainable textile industry. GOTS certified cotton contributes to a principle of circularity, from the cotton seed to the consumer. Be a green trendsetter and order your first GOTS articles in the webshop!

Also promote with GOTS?

Of course you want to promote these products in your company. For this you have the following options:

Business-to-Consumer: As a retailer, you do not need to apply for your own certificate when your customers buy the fabrics directly from your shop. Of course, it is always possible to apply for your own certificate. If you have a shop that does not have its own GOTS certificate, you must use the certification number CU 1010800 in combination with the GOTS logo for your promotion. This logo can be found in the webshop under your account under the heading "other downloads" and then select the GOTS folder under "Certificates". Without using the logo and certification number, you may only use the term 'organic cotton'.

If you have a webshop, you should always have your own certificate to promote with GOTS. This is because of GOTS packaging requirements. Of course, you may use the term "organic cotton" in your promotion.

Business-to-Business: As a reseller or wholesaler with a GOTS turnover of less than €20,000 per year, you do not need to have your own certificate, but you must register with a certification agency such as Control Union. When the GOTS turnover exceeds €20.000,- a year, you will have to apply for your own certificate as soon as possible.

As a manufacturer/ garment maker you may only promote GOTS or speak of 'certified' products if you actually have a personal certification number. Without your own certificate you may always use the term 'organic cotton' in your sales. Everyone in the chain is responsible for the correct application of the GOTS logo. In this way, transparency is maintained. For more information, please visit https://global-standard.org/ or send an email to sustainability@verheestextiles.com
